International Experience Canada (IEC) is Now Accepting Applications for the Year 2023

On December 19, International Experience Canada (IEC) opened its pools to new applicants for the 2023 season. Candidates can now make their profiles online if they are qualified to compete in IEC 2023.

At a news conference in Banff, Immigration Minister Sean Fraser said that the International Experience Canada (IEC) programme will start on January 9, 2023. There will be 90,000 slots available for foreigners from the 36 participating nations between the ages of 18 and 35, a 20% increase from the previous year.

What is the IEC program?

The IEC is organised into three categories:

  • Working Holiday Visa:  This type of visa is suited for people who want to work for any Canadian employer. Candidates are given an open work permit under this programme. This implies that you are able to relocate while staying in Canada and change employment.
  • Young Professional: In this category, candidates have the opportunity to work for a Canadian business and earn Canadian work experience. To apply, candidates must have a valid work offer from Canada. You must work for the same employer in the same place because this programme offers an employer-specific work visa.
  • International Co-op: Through this programme, international students can complete an internship or work placement in Canada. This is only accurate, though, when there is a necessity.

What is the IEC 2023 Program Application Process?

On January 9, 2023, the IEC season will start. You will be able to do the following tasks.

  1. Submit profile: You need to first submit a profile through your IRCC account in order to be considered for an invitation. You can use the same account if you’ve already submitted a profile, but you’ll need to make a new one.
  2. Get an invitation: You must first be invited before submitting a work permit application. Invitations are sent every week using a random lottery mechanism. You will be eligible for more invitation rounds the earlier you join the pool.
  3. Fill out a work permit application: If you receive an invitation, you have 10 days to accept or reject it. You will have 20 days to prepare and submit your application if you decide to accept. Candidates will be able to submit their profiles to the IEC pool once the season starts on January 9th. Invitational rounds often get underway a few weeks after the season opener.

What to Do to Get an IEC Invitation Ready

Here are some actions you may take in the interim to get ready for an invitation:

  1. Police Certificates: Police clearances, commonly referred to as background checks or police certificates, are required for nations where you have resided for six or more continuous months since becoming 18 years old.
  2. Biometrics: The submission of biometric data, such as fingerprints, is now required by IEC.
  3. Resume/CV: Create a CV that can assist you in finding employment in Canada.
  4. Resume/CV: Create a CV that can assist you in finding employment in Canada.
  5. Look for employment in Canada: Start looking for a job before you even arrive.
